Since its humble beginnings seven years ago, Dot To Dot Festival has gone from strength to strength and has served up sets from bands that have gone on to see incredible success. In the past, this has meant shows from the likes of Mumford & Sons, Florence & the Machine and The XX - but this month it focused back on some lesser-known acts hoping to break through in the same way. Taking place across three cities - Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester - the event has a pretty ambitious mission statement. In Manchester alone, it uses seven different stages at venues like The Ritz, Sound Control, The Deaf Institute, Zoo and Joshua Brooks, but while this is probably something of a challenge for the organisers in terms of business liability insurance, the backing of sponsors Fred Perry probably provides some small comfort.
Dot will debut in over 3,300 stores in the United States and Great Britain in July, and internationally in August. The perfume range is priced from $48 to $89, body lotion for $45 and shower gel for $40. Dot comes after Daisy and Lola, all three aimed at young women with the latest one seemingly geared to even younger teens. The new launch gives permission to play with perfume, at any age. Dots summer release is definitely appropriate as there is a tropical element unlike its sister scents. Although maintaining the right amount of freshness and sweetness, Dot is also chic and charming at the same time. Not only Marc Jacob perfume but also his perfume bottles are fun and can bought just to put them somewhere in a room to light up the decor. This time the bottle is cute ladybird-inspired one which is adorned with dots and butterflies which is supposed to evoke visualisations of "a ladybug with butterflies alighting on it." According to the designer, the idea of the hybrid butterfly-ladybugs suggests a sort of free spirit and femininity and playfulness.
This Saturday marked the fifth annual International Dot Day, a day dedicated to encouraging students creativity and inspiring confidence. Classrooms around the globe have been celebrating this and last week with unique activities such as dot art, musical "sound dots," and using dots to help teach maps and math. Dot Day was started by teacher Terry Shay in Waterloo, Iowa, to celebrate the publication of Peter H. Reynolds childrens book "The Dot"; the book shares the story of a young girl named Vashti who is encouraged by her teacher to "make her mark." In the story, Vashti tries to prove to her teacher that she cannot draw by making a small mark on the paper while declaring, "There!"-Vashtis art teacher then encourages her to be brave and use her imagination to see where this dot could take her.
From designing for multiple fashion houses to a recent announcement that a make-up line is on its way to be launched soon, theres just no stopping when it comes to creativity for Marc Jacob. After enjoying immense success with his previous womens fragrances, Daisy being launched in 2007 and Lola in 2009, this summer it is time for a new lady in Mr Jacobs life. The designer has unveiled another creation from his kitty which is an addition to his girls Lola and Daisy. Dot, the new sister is an inspiration from the polka dot. Jacob told that dot is timeless and a pattern he always loved as he finds round shapes always beautiful. The designer added the new fragrance has a juicy, lush quality to it. The fragrance features notes of red berries, dragon fruit, honeysuckle, jasmine, coconut water, orange blossom, vanilla, driftwood, and musk. Top notes of the DOT incorporate red berries combined with pitaya fruit, known also as dragon fruit. The juicy and exciting opening is followed by a floral trio composed of honeysuckle, jasmine and orange blossom, while a base closes with a trail of coconut water, vanilla, driftwood and sensual musk. An Annie Buzantian and Ann Gottlieb creation, the flacon is made of red glass and decorated with flowers and golden plate with inscribed name of the fragrance and of the brand Dot. The ad campaign features Codie Young looking wide-eyed in the Maldives is shot by Juergen Teller which will grace magazines in September. Marc Jacobs Dot will be available as 30ml, 50lm and 100ml eau de perfume spray; body lotion and shower gel.
After first introducing children to dot to dots, you may want to offer a little supervision. Encourage kids to seek out the next number in the sequence. Its best to draw a straight, even line from one dot to the other, and dont forget to connect that final dot or the image wont be complete! At the same time, dont insist that everything be "just so." Kids need to be able to experiment and be creative, even if it means coloring outside the lines. Dot to dots have many variations, and some are worked using letter sequences alphabetically rather than numbers while some spell words. The skill level needed ranges from preschool-age on up. Sometimes, its immediately obvious what the picture is, while other designs will keep you guessing almost until the final line is drawn.
Dont do it! Youre better off picking a name that at first glance has nothing to do with your business than one that the average person cant say without stumbling over his tongue. The reason is simple: if you cant say it you cant remember it much less spell it when needed.
